Background and Discussion:

Officers participating in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) will make enforcement of DWI Speed, Safety Belt, Hazardous Moving Violations, and Distracted Driving offenses their top priority. Enforcement will occur from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026. The goal is to reduce commercial vehicle crashes, fatalities, and injuries, through high visibility enforcement and public education.

 

Expected Impact:

A reduction in crashes, fatalities, and injuries related to speed, alcohol or drug impairment, distracted driving, intersection crashes, and lack of restraint devices is expected.

 

Alternative Options:

No known viable alternative to accomplish the goal of reducing crashes, fatalities, and injuries with grant funded overtime.
