Background and Discussion:
This change in contract is needed to complete the construction contract for this project. Channel Repair along P130-02-00 includes the channel erosion repair and restoration of the side slopes of P130-02-00 from approximately 1,000 linear feet south of Woodland Hills Drive to Rankin Road. The scope of work involves tree removal as shown in the plans, backslope swale system repair and installation, desilting of the existing channel in areas where there is concrete slope paving on the side slopes and transitions as required, and repair of side slopes and sinkholes as indicated. The purpose of this contract change is to increase quantities necessary to complete construction and increase project duration. The contract change includes the addition of 180 days due to inclement weather and new alternative access route and includes extending existing bid items for construction fence and site access.
Expected Impact:
This change will allow the contractor to construct the project so that Harris County can realize intended flood risk reduction benefits.
Alternative Options:
This is an active construction contract, so there are not many alternatives to approving a change order other than cancelling the contract which is not recommended as doing so would substantially delay the remaining work in the construction contract.
