Background and Discussion:
Project includes the construction of a new 658 sf hexagonal concrete pavilion at Art Storey Park located at 7400 West Sam Houston Parkway in Precinct 4. The concrete pavilion has a custom wooden roof structure with glazed clay tiles that were pre-purchased and imported from Taiwan for installation by the awarded contractor.
The change in contract includes the costs associated with providing the necessary materials, equipment, and labor for additional work involving the installation of the pre-purchased roof structure and tiles. Services include repairing cracks in the wooden roof members, filling of cracks on wood surfaces and sanding smooth prior to painting, for the installation of roof waterproofing, for the application of mortar to roof structure necessary to properly attach clay tiles and seal roof end cap openings, for the application of clear acrylic coating after finish painting is applied, and for additional material essential to complete the roof system, clay tiles, and various glazed ornaments mounted on the roof.
Expected Impact:
Upon completion, the project will provide park visitors with a durable and distinctive covered structure. Approval of this change order will ensure that all necessary measures are taken to properly install and complete the pre-purchased roof system.
Alternative Options:
Commissioners court could postpone the change order, which will delay project completion and create significant negative impacts on work already completed due to continuous exposure to the elements.
