Background and Discussion:

This project is located within the El Rio Service Center at 7901 El Rio Street. The service center doubles as an emergency distribution center for ready to eat meals and water after an emergency event. Currently, the Precinct staff stores these perishables at different locations and must transport them to the unconditioned warehouse for distribution.

Expected Impact:

This Project seeks to condition a portion of an unconditioned warehouse to allow storage of the meals and water for distribution after an event. When the facility is unconditioned, food and water stored in this location is subject to spoilage due to the heat. Adding conditioning will allow the Precinct to keep these resources longer before having to dispose of them. It also allows everything to be prearranged for distribution after an event

Alternative Options:

An option is to store water and ready-to-eat meals and water within an unconditioned facility requiring them to be disposed of more often due to heat damage.

Another option is to construct a facility on another campus that would require repositioning the food and water immediately ahead or after an event.
