Background and Discussion:

The Clean Streets, Safe Neighborhoods Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) program aims to reduce violent crime through interventions in specific zip codes or census tracts with the highest rates of violence through the installation and improvement of infrastructure. The Civic Art Initiative was created to enhance the built environment and make public spaces more appealing, useful, and accessible through the incorporation of artwork.  This has been approved by the ARPA Steering Committee.

Civic Art Initiative investments were prioritized in neighborhoods with approved CPTED projects to layer investments for maximum impact. Precinct 4 neighborhoods and associated projects include:

•                     Alief - Linear Forest

•                     Gulfton - Shade Structures, Pedestrian Lights, Art, and Sidewalks

•                     Sharpstown - Shade Structures, Pedestrian Lights, Art, and Sidewalks

Expected Impact: The improvements will enhance the built environment and promote community safety.
