Background and Discussion:

This Agreement will provide design, bidding, and construction phase engineering services for Riggs Stormwater Detention Basin - Phase 2. This project includes deepening of the existing basin located at Little White Oak Bayou watershed just north of the intersection of I-45 and I-610. Phase 2 of this project will help mitigate future channel improvements along the existing Little White Oak Bayou (E101-00-00) and will take the tract to its full detention volume capacity. This project occurs in the 2nd quartile under the 2022 Prioritization Framework approved by Commissioners Court.

Expected Impact:

The project seeks to reduce flood risks and strengthen resiliency in the Little White Oak Bayou watershed by taking the existing basin to its full detention volume capacity of 20.6 acre-feet. The existing basin, along with future improvement projects, will help remove the 500-year area of inundation from an estimated 2,815 structures, 2,520 acres of land and 82.8 miles of roadway.

Alternative Options:

The alternative to this item would be that the agreement will not be approved, which would result in the project not moving forward.
