Background and Discussion:

The project site is located within north Harris County, east of Hardy Toll Road, north of F.M. 1960, and south of Cypress Creek (HCFCD Unit No. K100-00-00). The purpose of this project is to reduce the risk of flood damage within the Cypress Creek watershed. The proposed detention basin will provide approximately 512 acre-feet of total stormwater detention volume while reducing water surface elevation level and peak flows along Cypress Creek during storm events. It will also remove the 100-year floodplain from approximately 30 structures.

Expected Impact:

Materials engineering and testing services on this project will provide essential quality control and assurance, ensuring that soils and construction materials meet specified standards and performance criteria, ultimately leading to enhanced structural integrity and longevity while reducing risks and costs associated with earthen and material failures. This quality control and assurance will help ensure that the project is constructed properly so that the Flood Control District provides stormwater detention and assists with alleviating flooding.

Alternative Options:

The alternative would be to select another firm for this assignment which would result in a delay in starting this project.
