title
Request that the County Judge execute an amendment to an agreement with Johnston, LLC in the additional amount of $63,990 to construct a large lift station and several sump pumps powered by emergency generator for professional architectural and engineering services for the design of restoration and mitigation efforts on Harris County buildings (170274), Justification for 0% MWBE Participation Goal: N/A - project was awarded prior to launch of County's M/WBE Program.

Background and Discussion:
The Harris County Downtown Tunnel System connects and provides access to 15 County buildings in Downtown Houston. This project aims to mitigate flooding by installing a large lift station with several sump pumps, powered by an emergency generator on the most vulnerable part of the tunnels, covering the area from the Criminal Justice Center to the Juvenile Justice Center and Civil Court house, to ensure proper flood water removal during extreme weather events.
Expected Impact:
This amendment will approve additional professional services for providing boring information at a depth of 50 ft, to enable design of trench protection and dewatering systems during construction. Design revisions will eliminate the north retaining wall from the scope, provide an access gate to the lift station at the south retaining wall, provide coping and finishing details for the south retaining wall and the CMU wall enclosure for the generator.
Alternative Options:
Not approving this request, thus preventing the construction of the lift station from commencing, due to lack of soil information at a depth of 50 ft.
