Background and Discussion:

On August 7, 2025, the Harris County Commissioners Court approved the Interlocal Agreement between the Harris County Housing & Community Development Department (formerly  CSD)  and the City of La Porte, Texas to provide local bus services for the City of La Porte.  The local bus service is funded through Federal Transit Administration (FTA) 5307 Urban Formula Grants administered by the Community Services Department and local matching funds provided by the City of La Porte.

On July 13, 2026, the La Porte City Council approved the Interlocal agreement to continue bus service for another year with optional two one-year renewals. The City of La Porte will provide $85,000 in local match funds each year for this service.

Expected Impact:

Fixed Route Bus Service in La Porte will provide more than 8,960 Unlinked passenger trips from August 2026 through July 2027.

Alternative Options:

Failure to approve this interlocal agreement will result in cancellation of Bus Service and deny transit dependent residents affordable public transportation.
