Background and Discussion:

The purpose of the program is to provide services and assistance to victims of crime to speed their recovery

and aid them through the criminal justice process. Services may include responding to the emotional and

physical needs of crime victims, assisting victims in stabilizing their lives, providing victims with safety and

security, and assisting victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system. Grant funds aid the

department in providing statutorily mandated service. Texas CCP Article 56.02. The grant term for this award is October 1, 2025 - September 30, 2026.

Expected Impact:

The program will keep providing services and assistance directly to victims of crime to speed their recovery

and aid them through the criminal justice process. It is the goal of the Harris County Precinct Five Constable’s Office (Pct. 5) to use funds awarded from the General Victim Assistance Direct Services Program to continue to support a permanent Victims Assistance Unit and augment current efforts. The Victim Assistance Unit has two Victim Liaisons who identify Victims through daily offense reports, referrals from deputies and other agencies, and walk-ins and phone calls to our office.
