Background and Discussion:

The grant application for this project was approved in Commissioners Court on June 25, 2024. Funding for this project was included as a Congressionally Directed Spending request in the FY 2024 federal budget.

Expected Impact:

Our agency’s patrol vehicles have standard windshields which do not withstand high-velocity projectiles. With the increasing threats and dangers that officers face in the line of duty, bulletproof windshields will provide critical protection against firearms, reducing the risk of injury or death.

Alternative Options:

If the Sheriff’s Office does not accept the award, we forfeit the opportunity to receive congressionally directed spending that would support the purchase of bulletproof windshields for patrol vehicles.
