Background and Discussion:

Freed playground is a heavily used play space with low play value. The playground size is small considering the usage level this play space receives. There are no shade structures protecting the equipment from UV rays. The fall surfacing currently is a wood fiber that is a yearly maintenance item. Collectively these items are creating the need for an upgraded playground providing enhancements to the community.

Expected Impact:

Installing a new inclusive playground will enhance the play value for the community to use. This new playground will achieve this by providing an all-inclusive element that the area did not have before. Shade structures will be installed that will extend play hours for the community but also extend the life of the equipment. The new rubber pour in place fall surfacing will minimize the current yearly maintenance aspect as well as provide a better fall surface for users.

Alternative Options:

If this playground were not to be replaced, the community would continue to be underserved with a playground with less play value than is needed. The equipment would continue to need repairs with costs that could outweigh the value of the current playground.
