Background and Discussion:

The purpose of this project is to prolong the life of the steel sheet piles installed on White Oak Bayou near Championship Park. The District widened and deepened White Oak Bayou (E100-00-00) in 1994. The construction methodology included driven steel sheet piles on both sides of the channel. The project scope also included an impressed current Cathodic Protection system that consisted of five Cathodic Protection Rectifiers and ten deep well anode beds. Since start-up in March of 1994 the effectiveness of the system has deteriorated, and the system is no longer providing adequate corrosion protection.

Expected Impact:

This project will install one additional deep well anode bed which will enable the Cathodic Protection system to provide adequate corrosion protection.

Alternative Options:

Do not proceed with the project.  The sheet pile wall will no longer receive adequate corrosion protection
