Background and Discussion:

Precinct 7 is in a minority, economically distressed inner-city area where many of Houston’s crimes occur. The Victim Assistance Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating with other agencies, data collection, outreach, and area businesses to serve victims of violent crimes, robbery, assault, sexual assault, and human trafficking

Expected Impact:

A Houston Chronicle Editorial reported that citizens indicated that crime was the top concern yet data from the Houston Police Department stated crime had decreased.  This could be because of hesitancy to report or a lack of trust in law enforcement in some communities.  The Harris County Community Plan states there is a great need for victim assistance programs to help victims to navigate the criminal justice system.
