Background and Discussion:

Harris County Public Health (HCPH) aims to increase access to its Mobile Health Services and Programs among priority communities. To achieve this goal, HCPH will host four or more Wellness on Wheels events per fiscal year, one per precinct starting in FY2024. Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD will collaborate to provide behavioral health and developmental disability services, education, and resources to community members regardless of financial status. This collaboration focuses on providing educational resources to community members attending the Wellness on Wheels (WoW) events to promote support and treatment to individuals in the community.

Expected Impact:

Having the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD offer behavioral health and developmental disability services, education, and resources at the Wellness on Wheels events will enhance accessibility to mental and behavioral health resources for community members who may encounter challenges accessing these specialized services. By offering these services in collaboration with educational initiatives, the Wellness on Wheels Event will raise awareness about behavioral health and developmental disability services and resources, empowering community members to take charge of their mental and behavioral health and see Harris County Public Health and the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD as a resource for wellbeing.
