Request Summary (Agenda Caption):

title

Request by the Sheriff’s Office for approval of a grant adjustment to repay the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) the amount of $231,087.31, with a discretionary match in the amount of $231,087.31, for supplanting violations for FY 22 and FY 23 for the Auto Theft Unit Program.

end

Background and Discussion:

The request to accept the grant award was approved on September 19, 2024.  The MVCPA Board determined that supplanting occurred during FY 22 and FY 23. The MVCPA will deduct this amount in four equal quarterly installments. One payment to be deducted in FY24 Q4 in the amount of $57,771.82 and three equal quarterly payments over FY 25 Q1, Q2 & Q3 in the amount of $57,771.83 for. To compensate for this amount, a discretionary match will be required in the amount of $231,087.31.

Expected Impact:

Increasing the discretionary match will offset the reduction in grant funds.

Alternative Options:

Not approving this discretionary match would result in a reduction in funding for the Auto Theft Unit.
