Background and Discussion:

The SSGT Fox Suicide Prevention Grant is a draw down grant and will utilize the VSD’s FASTRR model to Find, Assess, Treat, Reassess, and Reintegrate veterans to prevent veteran suicides.  This will be the third year VSD has successfully administered this grant that currently funds 9 FTEs at 100%.  The SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant enables Harris County Veterans enrolled in the program access to tailored suicide prevention plans, a dedicated case manager, and mental health services.  Enrolled veterans also receive much needed access to housing, clothing, transportation, childcare, food security, employment opportunities and peer support.

Expected Impact:

Reduce veteran suicides across Harris and surrounding counties.

Alternative Options:

Inaction; Harris County continues the trend of one veteran suicide once every six days

Alignment with Goal(s):

_ Justice and Safety

_ Economic Opportunity

_ Housing

X Public Health

_ Transportation

_ Flooding

_ Environment

X Governance and Customer Service
