Background and Discussion:

Prescribed burns, also known as prescribed fires, are the controlled application of fire by a team of fire experts under specified weather conditions to maintain or restore health to ecosystems. Prescribed burns among other benefits protect communities from extreme fires by reducing hazardous fuels, minimize the spread of pests and diseases, recycle nutrients back into the soil, and promote the growth of trees, wildflowers, and other plants. It has been determined that a prescribed burn will be beneficial to maintaining and enhancing the ecosystem of El Franco Lee Park.
