Background and Discussion:

This grant would enable the Sheriff’s Office to work overtime on approximately 140 opioid cases per year in an effort to dismantle the opioid trafficking networks.  Community outreach programs would be conducted to educate the public about the dangers of opioid misuse.  In addition, patrol deputies would be equipped with life-saving Narcan to counteract overdoses.  The grant period is October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2027.

Expected Impact:

This grant project seeks to combat the opioid problem in Harris County.

Alternative Options:

Not applying for this grant would cause the Sheriff’s Office to forfeit the opportunity to receive these grant funds.
