Project Description:
This project is to repair and upgrade an existing soccer complex irrigation system. The existing system has been out of service for several years and lacks sufficient water sourcing pump and pipe, and needs extensive repair to the control system. Furthermore, the distribution system needs additional valving and repair of leaks. These changes will make the soccer fields safer for the constituents that use the fields.
Project Scope:
Purchase and install a new 25 hp self-priming, skid-mounted pump and pipe it to a 6” discharge line. Provide a new 5,000-gallon tank and set it on a new slab. Remove the existing control panel, demo the old internal controls, and provide a new air compressor. Labor and miscellaneous materials to bring the system up to operational standards.
Justification:
The existing irrigation system has been inoperable for many years. The hot Baytown summers have made the fields hard, and the grass has relied on rain for any moisture, resulting in hard and dry ground that is unpleasant and dangerous to play soccer on. The new system will allow for irrigation and the establishment of a grass turf suitable for soccer play.
Alternatives and Engagement:
The alternative is to continue to neglect the needs of the fields and to tolerate the poor condition of the facility, which would be in great demand if in good shape.
