Background and Discussion:

Precinct 4 is collaborating with Arc of Harris County (AoHC) to provide community-based programs and support services for Harris County residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), autism, and their families. Through this collaboration, AoHC will deliver four independently operated program areas designed to promote inclusion, independence, family support, and access to community resources. The agreement term is twelve (12) months with two (2) one-year renewal options.

Program offerings include the Creciendo Juntos/Thriving Together bilingual youth camp, educational workshops, family support services, and community-based activities tailored to the needs of individuals with IDD and autism. Services will be culturally responsive, available in both English and Spanish when appropriate, and provided at no cost to participants. The collaboration is intended to improve quality of life, strengthen family support systems, increase access to resources, and create inclusive opportunities for underserved populations throughout Harris County.

Expected Impact:

The Arc of Harris County collaboration is expected to improve social, educational, and developmental outcomes for individuals with IDD and autism while providing meaningful support to their families and caregivers. Participants will benefit from structured programming that promotes independence, social-emotional development, life skills, community engagement, and access to critical resources.

Families will gain increased knowledge of disability-related services, educational rights, advocacy tools, and available community support through bilingual workshops and individualized assistance. The initiative will also strengthen community inclusion by creating opportunities for recreation, social connection, family engagement, and culturally responsive support services designed to address barriers faced by Spanish-speaking and underserved households.
