Background and Discussion:

According to the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool, the project area is designated as a disadvantaged community under the criteria established by the Justice40 Initiative. The existing drainage infrastructure, which is more than 70 years old, no longer meets current engineering and capacity standards. Additionally, based on FEMA Repetitive Loss and Severe Repetitive Loss data, the area has sustained frequent and significant flood-related damages resulting from extreme rainfall events.

Expected Impact:

The project will result in reduced flood risks for current and future development in the area and could provide economic development by making the area less susceptible to extreme rainfall events.

Alternative Options:

The alternative option for this proposal would be denial of this project which may have a negative impact on surrounding communities.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.

County Strategic Plan Objective: H: Improve the condition and resilience of County transportation, flood control, and other infrastructure.
