Background and Discussion:

Since 2014, the Benefits & Wellness division of Human Resources & Risk Management has coordinated the employee 5K event in partnership with Commissioner precincts. The annual event brings employees, retirees and their families and friends together to walk or run at one of the County’s many beautiful and unique parks. This year, Commissioner Precinct 1’s Alexander Deussen Park will host the event with an anticipated in-person turnout of 1,000+ race participants. It is anticipated that there will also be hundreds of spectators that will attend the event to support and cheer on participants. County departments and partners will have booths at the event to engage attendees with information and services beneficial to their health and overall wellbeing.

In consultation with Precinct 1, two food vendors have been arranged to be present so that racers, spectators, and event staff can purchase food and beverages for themselves.

Expected Impact:

The event is funded by Aetna, which allows for free registration for employees and retirees and a low fee for friends and family to participate.
