Background and Discussion:

The Brookglen Stormwater Detention Basin Phase 2 project is located in Harris County Pct. 2 and within the City of La Porte limits. For Phase 2, the proposed south compartment is bounded by B112-00-00 to the west, Ashwyne Lane to the north, CenterPoint Energy Electric’s property with high voltage transmission facilities to the east, and a transmission line easement to the south. Based on community feedback, the south compartment is being designed with multiple stormwater detention basin cells to avoid the abandonment of Gladwyne Lane. Gladwyne Lane will remain open during construction to maintain the traffic flow within the Brookglen Subdivision. Both stormwater detention basin sites have a dry bottom configuration due to its proximity to Ellington Airport and La Porte Municipal Airport.

Expected Impact:

The objective of this project is to maximize the detention volume storage and help to reduce the risk of flood damage in the Armand Bayou Watershed. In addition, the south detention basin provides the community with an amenity feature option, constructed by others in the future.

Alternative Options:

The alternative option does not proceed to the final design phase of this project. Flood risk in the project area would remain the same.
