Background and Discussion:

Since 2014 the Benefits & Wellness division of Human Resources and Talent has coordinated the employee 5K event in partnership with the four commissioner precincts. The annual event brings employees, retirees and their families and friends together to walk or run at one of the County’s many beautiful and unique parks. This year Commissioner Precinct 1’s Tom Bass Park will play host to the event with an anticipated in-person turnout of 1,000+ race participants. County departments, partners and benefits will host booths during the event to engage attendees with information and services beneficial to their health and overall wellbeing.

We anticipate there will be hundreds of spectators that will attend the event to support and cheer on the participants. In consultation with Precinct 1, one food vendor has been arranged to be present so that racers, spectators, and event staff receive a free meal after the race.

Expected Impact:

The event is funded by Aetna which allows for free employee and retiree registration and a low fee for friends and family to participate.
