Background and Discussion:

This project will provide flood damage reduction benefits to Keegans Bayou’s upper and middle reaches and is part of the recommended project outlined in the Keegans Bayou Watershed Planning Study. The project consists of the construction of two detention basins through two separate phases (D518-03-00-E002 & D518-03-00-E003) that are partially funded through the Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program.  This project occurs in the first quartile of the 2022 Prioritization Framework adopted by Commissioners Court.

Expected Impact:

The proposed project together with future ultimate phases will potentially provide up to 400 ac-ft of detention near channel D118-14-00 and Keegans Bayou and result in a benefit to approximately 130 homes during a 100-year flood event. The proposed agreement includes design of two of three proposed phases of the recommended project. Flood Control District staff will manage the engineering consultant team to execute the design stage of this project.

Alternative Options:

The alternative to approving this item would be to select a different consultant which will delay progress on this project.
