Background and Discussion:

The existing drainage system is a curb and gutter residential with underground storm sewer. The entirety of Lakeshore Section 1 drains to Lakeshore Landing Drive to a large reinforced concrete box that outfalls to G103-55-00 and ultimately Lake Houston.

•                     The primary drainage issue is that a section of Elm Shores Drive experiences frequent street ponding that adversely affects residents on the east side of the street.

•                     These homes flooded during Hurricane Harvey and experienced garage flooding during Imelda and have continued to experience garage flooding damages.

Precinct expectations:

•                     The recommended solution involves the addition of a storm sewer along Elm Shores Drive with a new outfall near the corner of Elm Shores Dr. and Cedar Shores Dr.

•                     The scope of work is to design the recommended storm sewer and obtain a drainage or storm sewer easement. The design shall include site restoration within the proposed easement.

Expected Impact:

This project aligns with Harris County’s goals of providing accessible, affordable, equitable, reliable, safe and sustainable drainage options and will provide these residents relief from structural damages during excessive rain events.

Alternative Options:

No other recommended solutions for this identified need.
