Background and Discussion:

The Senger Stormwater Detention Basin and Channel Rehabilitation at IH-45 project comprises channel improvements to the main stem of Cypress Creek (HCFCD Unit K100-00-00) centered at IH-45 and excavation of a new stormwater detention basin. The project is being constructed using Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funds.

The scope of work includes approximately 4,500 linear feet of channel rehabilitation along the main stem of Cypress Creek centered at IH-45 with widening, benching, and bank stabilization, and the offsite disposal of approximately 1,027,722 cubic yards of excavated material to facilitate the construction of a new stormwater detention basin. Construction activities include site clearing and grubbing, excavation and offsite disposal, outfall piping and control structures, site grading, channel widening and stabilization and the development of maintenance access path, all in accordance with the approved plans.

Expected Impact:

The objective of the project is to improve the capacity and condition of the Cypress Creek channel, maximize stormwater storage capacity in the watershed, and reduce flood risk in the surrounding communities.

Alternative Options:

The No Action Alternative would fail to meet the purpose and needs of mitigating flood risk and provide additional system capacity for this Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funded project. Under the No Action Alternative, area residents would continue to be affected by area flooding.
