Request Summary (Agenda Caption):

title

Request for approval to compensate law enforcement officers at the approved overtime hourly rate (time-and-a-half or “z-time”) for election security services performed during FY2027.

end

Background and Discussion:

The County Clerk’s Office, Harris County Law Enforcement Agencies, and the County Attorney’s Office

have developed a security plan for the FY2027 election cycles. This plan relies on the participation of law enforcement officers, who will be compensated for their time at the approved overtime hourly rate of pay (time-and-a-half or “z-time”). The Harris County Auditor’s Office requires Court approval in advance to authorize direct overtime compensation.

Expected Impact:

This authorization ensures that personnel and equipment at the central counting station, regional collection sites, and voting locations throughout the county are secure. There is no fiscal impact at this time, as existing funds have been allocated for election security purposes. Agencies will track actual costs and be reimbursed for officer time dedicated to election security.
