Transmittal by the Office of the County Engineer of Vision Zero Quarterly Report.

Background and Discussion:

The Vision Zero Action Plan was approved by Commissioners Court in September 2022. The Action Plan includes various strategies to improve safety for all road users. Implementing Vision Zero improvements through a comprehensive and systematic approach can drastically reduce these crashes, making Harris County safer for all modes of travel. Vision Zero-supportive improvements are being tracked and quarterly updates are provided to the Commissioners Court. The attachment includes a transmittal of a quarterly report for Vision Zero.

Expected Impact:

The Vision Zero Action Plan recommends safety improvements to High-Risk corridors to eliminate fatal and serious crashes.  Tracking of Vision Zero activities measures the safety improvements in the county and helps to asses gaps and plan for directing future projects.

Recommended Motion:

No action is required.

Alternative Options:

Failure to identify and monitor Vision Zero activities will result in no way of knowing how effective those activities are in reducing crashes.  Without ongoing tracking and recording the benefit of the Vision Zero program would be unknown.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.
