Background and Discussion:

As part of the Clean Streets Safe Neighborhoods initiative, the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) focus area of the Harris County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) portfolio identified proactive neighborhood nuisance abatement as a “quick win” for reducing violent crime and increasing quality of life in vulnerable communities. The Neighborhood Nuisance Abatement program is focused on the abatement of unsafe structures in Harris County neighborhoods that pose a health and safety risk to area residents including children.

Expected Impact:

The abatement of the public nuisance will remove public safety and health risks within the community. These abatements are prioritized based on crime and environmental data.

Alternative Options:

If Commissioners Court chooses not to approve this order, the nuisance(s) will not be abated.

Alignment with Goal(s):

_ Justice and Safety

_ Economic Opportunity

_ Housing

X Public Health

_ Transportation

_ Flooding

X Environment

_ Governance and Customer Service
