Background and Discussion:

The Overdose Data to Action (OD2A - Local) is a grant from the CDC to Harris County Public Health for Opioid use and harm reduction. This grant project focuses on prevention and surveillance strategies, whereby surveillance data related to mortality, clinical, and related data will be linked to support prevention activities centered around care, education, and coalition-building. The carryover of the grant funds will allow Harris County Public Health to allocate any unspent resources towards managing overdose emergencies. This includes providing education, promoting harm reduction strategies, and distributing Naloxone.

Expected Impact:

These funds will facilitate the ongoing design, development, and distribution of educational materials on harm reduction, overdose prevention, and the use of Naloxone to reverse overdoses in the Harris County community. This will help meet the high demand for Naloxone among marginalized communities, substance use treatment centers, agencies, and law enforcement.

Alternative Options:

Court could choose to not accept theFY24 Carryover budget which may interrupt overdose preventions and harm reduction services to the residents of Harris County and staffing to support grant activities.
