Background and Discussion:

The request will allow Harris County to initiate a feasibility study with SSP Engineering & Consulting PLLC to provide professional engineering services for assessment of a proposed trail extending from John Paul Landing to Jack Road. The trail would generally follow the existing CenterPoint easement and consist of an approximately 10-foot-wide sidewalk, with alignment adjustments as necessary to accommodate transmission lines.

Expected Impact:

This project would determine the feasibility of a Hike and Bike Path along the project limits which will connect to existing sidewalks enhancing the mobility options for the non-motorized modes while providing safe and efficient connectivity. The study is also intended to include additional recreational opportunities for surrounding communities, while identifying improvements to enhance mobility and support safer pedestrian travel.

Alternative Options:

If no action is taken, the safety and mobility benefits associated with the proposed improvements will not be evaluated for feasibility, thereby depriving residents and pedestrians of the enhancements these potential improvements are intended to provide.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.
