Background and Discussion:

Moody Park, recently acquired by Precinct 2 from the City of Houston, is a key community asset serving residents with a range of recreational amenities and open space. Over time, portions of the park’s infrastructure - including pedestrian pathways, internal connectivity, and aquatic facilities - have aged and no longer fully meet the needs of a growing and diverse population.

The proposed Moody Park Improvements project is intended to address these challenges by enhancing accessibility, safety, and overall usability of the park. Planned improvements include upgrades to aquatic facility to support expanded aquatics programming.

These enhancements will create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for individuals of all ages and abilities. The project aligns with ongoing efforts to invest in high-quality, equitable public spaces to expand recreational opportunities for the Precinct 2 community. The total project cost $3,000,000. The grant requires a 50% local match of $1,500,000 to secure $1,500,000 in grant funding.

Expected Impact:

The Moody Park Improvements plan aims to elevate the overall community experience by enhancing accessibility, safety, and recreational opportunities. Key elements of the project include provide safer, more navigable pathways for all users and the renovation of the existing aquatic facility, which will support expanded aquatics programming and broaden public use.
