Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request by the Sheriff’s Office for approval to accept an amendment to an award from the Office of National Drug Control Policy modifying the total award to $1,018,579, for the FY26 High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Grant Program.
end
Background and Discussion:
The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) grant program seeks to enhance and coordinate efforts among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to eliminate or reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States. Grant funds will be used to pay for the salary and benefits of an analyst, overtime costs, vehicle rental costs, facility and equipment lease, and any other associated costs for the HIDTA program.
The initial award was accepted by Commissioners Court on August 6, 2026, for $1,058,579. This is the first amendment reducing the grant award by $40,000. The funds were reallocated to another agency to support overtime and vehicle lease expenses for Task Force Officers assigned to those initiatives.
Expected Impact:
Grant funds will enable the HCSO to continue providing several law enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing the supply and trafficking of illegal drugs. There will be no impact to the general fund budget. The two positions were vacant, so the grant funding was reallocated to another agency.
Alternative Options:
There are no alternatives to accepting this award amendment.
