Project Description:

This project is to acquire the additional property needed to expand Cypress Camp, and thereby eliminate dangerous and inefficient overcrowding of the current property; to create a safer and more productive facility from which to operate.

Project Scope:

Precinct 3 will acquire a 3-acre parcel of land that is adjacent to the existing Cypress Camp.

Justification:

Precinct 3 has a statutory obligation to build and maintain the 47% of lane miles of Harris County roads and the 33% of road miles of Harris County bridges, which are in our precinct.  Many of these roads and bridges are served out of Cypress due to logistical considerations. Additionally, we also maintain many of our 72 parks from this camp.  The large number of workers and the large inventory of equipment that is based at Cypress Camp has outgrown the available area and is now overcrowded.  We must have a larger facility.

Alternatives and Engagement:

The only alternative is to continue to operate in an inadequate facility, with its associated safety risks and inefficiencies.
