Request Summary (Agenda Caption):

title

Request by the Office of County Administration for approval to accept an amendment to an agreement with the MacArthur Foundation to extend the grant end date to February 28, 2026 for the Safety + Justice Challenge (SJC) Sustainability Grant Program.

end

Background and Discussion:

The County was chosen in 2016 as one of eleven jurisdictions across the United States to receive $2 million to implement strategies for justice system improvement. In 2019, we applied for a renewal grant and received $2.1 million to continue the SJC work and expand our strategy. In 2021, we were awarded an additional $500,000 over 2 years for the SJC Sustainability grant.  Without this amendment, The SJC Sustainability Grant will expire on February 28, 2025.

Expected Impact:

The grant funds will enable us to continue work begun under the Safety + Justice Challenge grant, including support of the RIC docket, community engagement stipends, and racial and ethnic equity training.

Alternative Options:

Not approve the SJC Sustainability grant extension, in which case the grant will expire, and the remaining funds will go unused.
