Background and Discussion:
Burnett Bayland Park is located in Harris County Precinct 4 on the west side of Houston inside Beltway 8 loop. The park is located at the intersection of Gulfton Street and Chimney Rock Road. The park is bounded by Gulfton Street on the north, Chimney Rock Road on the east, Alder Dr on the west, and extended park area on the south side. Burnett Bayland Park is a 40-acre park that features skate park, walking trails, community center, play areas, basketball courts etc. The proposed improvements include inclusive playground, detention basin, event lawn, multi-purpose courts, soccer fields, gaming and seating area, splash pad, rain gardens, restrooms, pavilions, covered basketball courts, multi-purpose courts, skate park etc.
Expected Impact:
This agreement will allow the firm to conduct field and laboratory testing on soil, concrete, asphalt and various other construction materials to ensure the material’s compliance with Harris County Engineering Department’s adopted standards and specifications as required by state law.
Alternative Options:
Construction materials testing is required by state law. Thus, alternatives include issuing a purchase order for similar services to a different vendor or cancelling this construction project.
