Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request by the County Judge for approval to accept an amendment to an agreement with the Office of the Governor/Homeland Security Grants Division to extend the grant end date to October 31, 2024 for the FY 2022 Law Enforcement Special Responses: HCSO Air, Bomb, Dive, SRG, and MCP project.
end
Background and Discussion:
The County has received funding from this grant program since 2002. The grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security via the Office of the Governor, Homeland Security Grants Division and includes a suite of risk-based grants to assist state, local, tribal and territorial efforts in preventing, protecting against, mitigating, responding to and recovering from acts of terrorism and other threats related to interoperable communications. This grant provides grantees with the resources required for implementation of the National Preparedness System and working toward the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation.
Expected Impact:
If accepted, the County will utilize $114,943.10 of Urban Area Security Initiative funds for the HC - Law Enforcement Special Responses: HCSO Air, Bomb, Dive, SRG, and MCP award, which will impact the County's ability to sustain unified incident command to increase situational awareness and communication with other special response teams in the region for a coordinated response.
Alternative Options:
Without this funding the County would need to find alternate funding, possibly utilize general funds, to maintain a robust Homeland Security Program.
