Background and Discussion:

The Apache Corporation is a Houston-based oil and gas exploration and production company. The Apache Corporation released the 2026-2027 Tree Grant Program in spring 2026 with an application deadline of July 31, 2026. The program provides native seedlings or young trees for beautification projects coordinated by counties, municipalities, schools, churches, parks, or other nonprofits. The organizations receiving the trees are responsible for planting and caring for them. Precinct 4 is seeking 1,700 trees for the FY 2026-2027 Apache Corporation Tree Program.

Expected Impact:

The Apache Corporation Tree Grant Program focuses on large-scale conservation, protection of habitats for wildlife and native species, as well as the restoration and enhancement of public greenspaces. If awarded, the trees will be planted to support storm recovery, flood control, and habitat restoration throughout Precinct 4.

Alternative Options:

(1) Precinct 4 purchases trees using Harris County funds. (2) Precinct 4 does not purchase trees in place of these, and the public does not receive the quality-of-life benefits that these trees would provide.
