Background and Discussion:
The County has received funding from this grant program since 2002. This grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Office of the Governor, Homeland Security Grants Division, and includes a suite of risk-based grants to assist state, local, tribal, and territorial efforts in preventing, protecting against, mitigating, responding to, and recovering from acts of terrorism and other threats related to interoperable communications. This grant provides grantees with the resources needed to implement the National Preparedness System and work toward the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation.
Expected Impact:
If accepted, the County will utilize $180,400.00 of State Homeland Security Program funds for the HCSO SWAT Unit Equipment award, which will impact the County's ability to prevent, prepare for, or protect against acts of terrorism.
Alternative Options:
Without this funding, the County would need to find alternate funding, possibly utilize general funds, to maintain a robust Homeland Security Program.
