title
Request by Public Health Services for approval to extend one (1) grant funded position to November 30, 2027 for the Strengthening U.S. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems Grant.
end
Background and Discussion:
In December 2023, Harris County Public Health was awarded a $23,952,258 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) program. These funds have largely been utilized to sustain more than 40 critical positions across HCPH to enhance the County's ability to provide essential public health services. HCPH is seeking the court's permission to extend the position end date for a Training and Exercise Specialist position recently transferred to the PHIG grant from an expired grant award. This move will align the position's end date with the end of the PHIG award.
Expected Impact:
The Training Specialist resides in HCPH's Office of Preparedness & Response and plays a critical role in ensuring that HCPH staff are prepared to respond to public health emergencies and disasters in Harris County. This staff member assists with increasing the capacity of preparedness trainings for new staff, provides regular training for all staff, and plans and executes large full scale/functional exercises, as well as regular discussion-based/tabletop exercises. This position will also support planning and implementation of training for and execution of Strategic National Stockpile exercises (functional and full scale).
