Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request for approval to reclassify a position effective April 5, 2025, to support the work at the Harris County Public Library-Katy Branch.
end
Background and Discussion:
The Interlocal Agreement with the City of Katy for operating the Katy Branch Library was approved at the Commissioner’s Court meeting on September 19, 2024. This agreement ensures that the community will continue to receive full library services with proper staffing. After reviewing the branch’s operations, the Public Library has identified the need for an additional full-time Librarian I position. To address this, a current part-time Library Technician I position will be reclassified as full-time Librarian I, with the additional funding provided by the City of Katy. This change will meet ongoing service demands and enhance library programs for both city and Harris County residents.
Expected Impact:
Enhanced library services to meet the growing needs of the community, expanded program offerings, and provide more support and engagement for visitors, ensuring a positive experience and fostering a welcoming environment for the residents of the city and the county.
Alternative Options:
Maintaining current staffing levels will limit Library services, increase staff workload, and reduce service quality, potentially leading to longer wait times, fewer programs, and a less welcoming environment for patrons.
