Background and Discussion:

This project includes the reconstruction of Holderrieth Road from State Highway 249 to 850 feet west of Hufsmith-Kohrville Road.  Reconstruction includes an upgrade of the roadway from a two-lane asphalt road with open ditches to a 4-lane concrete curb and gutter boulevard with a 32-foot raised median.

Temporary modification to the traffic signal was required to allow for the signal heads to better align with the traffic pattern.  Also, the proposed solution of removing and relocating of fence will eliminate the installation of extended curb and 6" sidewalk. This change will save significant amount to Harris County. This change order is intended to compensate the contractor for the additional work.

New Items

TEMPORARY SIGNAL MODIFICATION AT SH249 (LS)                                                                                                                              $12,173.06

REMOVE AND REPLACE EXISTING FENCE (LS)                                                                                                                                                   $46,491.13

Expected Impact:

This change in contract allows the contractor to be appropriately compensated for the additional cos and time.

Alternative Options:

An alternative was to proceed with the original design, but that would be significantly more costly for Harris County.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.

County Strategic Plan Objective: F: Ensure safety and security for all using the county’s transportation network in alignment with the County’s Vision Zero plan.
