Background and Discussion:
The District Attorney’s Office uses advanced forensic tools to collect and capture data for case evidence. Tools from Magnet Forensics are heavily utilized by HCDAO to accomplish this task. Magnet Graykey is a mobile forensic device that enables investigators to quickly extract data from locked and encrypted iOS and Android devices. Magnet Axiom is a broader digital forensic software platform used for analyzing and reporting on digital evidence from various sources, including mobile devices, computers, and cloud services.
Expected Impact:
This procurement is a renewal for proven forensic tools. Through acquisition of these forensic tools, HCDAO will continue to collect case evidence from locked and encrypted smart phones. In addition, HCDAO will have the tools to analyze and report on the collected data.
Alternative Options:
Harris County could choose not to collect evidence from locked or encrypted iOS and Android devices.
