Background and Discussion:

WellSpring Family and Community Institute, LLC. provides therapeutic services for children of incarcerated parents within the Harris County Jail initially through the FY 2020 Second Chance Act Addressing the Needs of Incarcerated Parents with Minor Children - Family First Reentry Program grant award. This program works with community partners to connect incarcerated parent(s) and their children with support services geared towards strengthening the family structure. Program has been positive and remains working with children of the incarcerated at the Harris County Jail. There is discussion to provide more future opportunities for inmates at the Harris County jail.  Wellspring began their partnership with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on the Family First grant, which has now ended. Due to the need for their unique connection with Harris County Jail and its surrounding communities, Reentry and Education is requesting their services remain, and commissary funds to be utilized for the services provided.
