Background and Discussion:

The Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (HCJPD) has received grant funding for the GRIP Specialty Court Program for many years.  The grant funding pays for services that the participants receive while under specialty court supervision.  This court is a registered specialty court in the State of Texas Specialty Court Registry (#281).

Expected Impact:

The participants of the GRIP Specialty Court are able to benefit from additional services such as therapeutic substance abuse services, training for GRIP Specialty Court staff, GPS monitoring for participants, requisite drug and alcohol testing, and increased assessments to ensure placement in the program is appropriate based on needs of the participants, as a result of being a recipient of these grant funds.

Alternative Options:

The items requested in the grant budget for the GRIP Specialty Court Program would be paid out of the general fund budget if the grant funds are not awarded to HCJPD.
