Background and Discussion:

Change Order includes additional requirements to renovation the interior of the elevators and replace one of the elevator motors that was determined to be unsalvageable in the field. In addition, the contractor agreed to an expedited schedule for an additional fast-tracking fee.

Expected Impact:

Without the renovations of the interior of the elevators, the modernization efforts would be incomplete. The elevators would not have the correct lighting, notifications, buttons, and handicap requirements for a complete project. The motor must be placed as the elevators would be un-operatable for a building with over 1,000 Harris County employees.

Alternative Options:

There are no viable options to replacement of motor. Without modernization of the interior, the elevator operation would be degraded, and the interior would have to be modernized on a separate project. This would cost Harris County more money as both the design and construction would need to be re-bid. If the timeline is not expedited, then Harris County employees would incur additional work hardship that could have otherwise been prevented.
