Request Summary (Agenda Caption):

title

Request for approval to execute a Service Outlet Location Statement for installation of an electric meter with CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC and authorize the County Auditor to pay monthly bills for 13902 ½ Crosby Freeway, Houston, Texas 77049 (intersection of Beltway 8 at US-90) for electrical power serving a traffic signal, UPIN 22104MF2G301, Precinct 1.

Background and Discussion:

The existing service at 14122 ½ Crosby Freeway is 3,000 feet from the intersection.  On February 6th, 2022, a construction crew damaged over 300 feet of conduit and accompanying conductors.  Assessment of damage and recommended course of repairs determined that a new service drop at half the distance would be the most cost-effective means to restore electrical service to the existing traffic signal. The subject traffic control signal is maintained and operated by Harris County per an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that was approved by Commissioner’s Court on February 24th, 2009.

Expected Impact:

Approval of the service outlet location statement will allow CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC to provide electrical service to the traffic signal, which is needed to enhance operations of the intersection of Beltway 8 at US-90.

Alternative Options:

All Traffic Signals require a power source, which is typically obtained through CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC. Alternative options are to place a generator, which is not reliable, or to not install traffic signals at the intersection. Both options will negatively impact operations and increase delay of the intersection.
