Background and Discussion:

The purpose of this grant is to provide safe transportation options to individuals who otherwise may consider driving under the influence. The grant will provide safe transportation options, including Z Trip vouchers, to individuals who otherwise may consider driving under the influence during the holiday season.  The Sheriff’s Office will distribute 300 Z Trip ride vouchers worth $15 each through deputies at restaurants, bars, and other high-traffic locations in Harris County, Texas.

Expected Impact:

This grant will encourage safe decision-making by providing free or discounted rides through Z Trip for individuals who may be impaired after dining or socializing at local restaurants or bars. The extension will provide the Sheriff’s Office with additional time to spend the grant funds.

Alternative Options:

Not accepting this grant would result in the forfeiture of these grant funds.
